Product Description
The Bolster Earwarmer is super comfy cozy! I used Lion Brand Yarn's Wool ease thick and quick, but the Hometown USA works just as nice if you don't care for wool. It works up super quick and features a new crochet stitch called the Bolster Stitch. A video tutorial is included with this written pattern (and photos). This is a one size but easily adjustable to fit smaller or larger sizes.
You can get about 2 earwarmers with one skein of the Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick yarn and would be a great addition to your inventory for Autumn/Winter markets.
I also host the Jsodet Crochet Facebook Group for assistance with Jsodet Crochet patterns and to show off you work from my patterns.

Bolster Earwarmer by Jsodet Crochet
Project Overview
The Bolster Earwarmer is a beginner-friendly crochet headwear accessory designed by Jen Dettelbach of Jsodet Crochet. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a cozy ear covering that measures approximately 21 to 22 inches in circumference with a 3½ inch width, making it an ideal quick project for crafters of all experience levels.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a fitted earwarmer—a tubular crochet accessory worn around the head to cover and warm the ears. The finished piece is sized to fit most head shapes comfortably, with customization options available by adjusting the initial chain length to create a narrower or wider band as desired.
Crochet Techniques and Construction
The Bolster Earwarmer employs fundamental crochet techniques suitable for beginners. The construction utilizes a combination of basic stitches worked in rounds or rows to create the tubular structure. The pattern incorporates a special bolster stitch variation, which adds texture and visual interest to the finished piece while remaining accessible to newer crocheters.
Stitches Used
- Chain stitch (ch) — the foundation stitch used to begin the project
- Half double crochet (hdc) — a medium-height stitch providing structure and drape
- Double crochet bolster (dcBol) — a specialty stitch unique to this design that creates the textured bolster effect
- Single crochet (sc) — a short, tight stitch used for shaping and finishing
Materials and Tools
The Bolster Earwarmer requires minimal materials, making it an economical project. Crafters will need one skein of Lion Brand Yarn's Wool Ease Thick & Quick Yarn, or approximately 80 yards of any Super Bulky weight yarn (weight category 6). A 9 mm crochet hook is used throughout the pattern. Additional supplies include scissors for cutting yarn and a yarn needle for weaving in loose ends.
Yarn Weight and Fiber Content
This pattern calls for chunky, super bulky yarn, which allows the project to work up quickly and creates a warm, substantial fabric ideal for winter headwear. The suggested Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick Yarn offers a wool blend that provides warmth and elasticity while remaining easy to care for, though any super bulky yarn of similar weight and yardage will work effectively.
Skill Level and Customization
Rated as an easy, beginner-level project, the Bolster Earwarmer is perfect for those new to crochet or looking for a fast, satisfying make. The pattern includes flexibility for customization—crafters can adjust the width of the earwarmer by chaining fewer stitches for a narrower band or more stitches for a wider band, and can similarly modify the circumference to achieve a better fit for different head sizes.
