Product Description
Handy little washcloth is a great eco alternative to bath loofahs.
The finished washcloth is a handy 20 x 20 cm or 8 x 8 inches and have a handy little loop on the corner to be hung up to dry.
The washcloth uses single crochet bobble stitch and there is a link provided in the pattern for a handy video tutorial demonstrating this stitch.
I used Cygnet Cottony DK for this washcloth which is cotton acrylic mix which dries quicker than pure cotton giving bacteria less chance to breed.
Blossom Washcloth by Veronika Cromwell
Project Overview
The Blossom Washcloth is a beginner-friendly crochet dishcloth designed by Veronika Cromwell. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a finished square measuring 20 x 20 cm (8 x 8 inches), making it an ideal size for everyday kitchen use or bathroom washing tasks. The project is worked entirely in crochet using straightforward techniques suitable for those new to the craft.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a textured square washcloth with decorative bobble stitch detailing. The finished piece measures 8 x 8 inches, providing a practical size for hand washing and cleaning. The washcloth design combines functional construction with visual interest through the use of bobble stitches, creating both texture and appeal.
Yarn and Materials
The Blossom Washcloth is made using Cygnet Cottony DK weight yarn in the Oatmeal colorway. This yarn blend contains 46% cotton, 46% acrylic, and 8% viscose, providing a soft, absorbent, and durable fabric suitable for washing applications. One 50g ball of yarn is required, which contains 111 meters of yardage. Additional materials include a 4 mm crochet hook, a yarn needle for weaving in ends, and scissors.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches
This beginner project uses fundamental crochet stitches and techniques to build the washcloth structure. The pattern employs the following stitches:
- Chain stitch (ch) – The foundation stitch used to begin the pattern with an even number of chains
- Single crochet (sc) – A basic short stitch used throughout the fabric
- Single crochet bobble stitch (sc bo) – A decorative stitch created by inserting the hook into a stitch, pulling up loops, and drawing yarn through multiple loops simultaneously to create a raised, textured bobble effect. This stitch is the primary focus of the pattern, with the washcloth worked in rows of single crochet bobbles
- Slip stitch (sl st) – Used for joining and finishing techniques
Pattern Construction
The Blossom Washcloth pattern begins with a foundation chain of an even number of stitches. The main body is constructed by working rows of single crochet bobble stitches, which create the textured surface characteristic of this design. The bobble stitch technique involves multiple yarn overs and loop manipulations within a single stitch base, producing dimensional texture that adds visual interest while maintaining the washcloth's functionality.
Gauge and Sizing
The pattern specifies a tension of 11.5 stitches by 13 rows over a 10 x 10 cm (approximately 4 x 4 inch) swatch. Achieving the correct gauge ensures the finished washcloth reaches the intended dimensions of 20 x 20 cm (8 x 8 inches). Beginners should take time to measure their gauge before starting the full project to ensure accurate sizing.
Skill Level
Rated as a beginner project, the Blossom Washcloth is accessible to those new to crochet. The pattern uses basic stitches and straightforward construction methods, making it an excellent choice for developing fundamental crochet skills while creating a practical, finished item.
