Product Description
Here is Bellamy, a sweet, very unscary little bat. Due to chenille sticks in his arms, you can position his wings open, closed or anywhere in between.
He is knitted flat using 3mm needles and DK yarn.
There are a few short rows on the boots and wings, which have clear easy to follow instructions, but apart from that, there no complicated stitches or shaping.
The clearly written pattern has several pictures to help you get the perfect finished toy.
A quick fun knit :O)
Bellamy Bat Knitted Toy
What is Being Made
Bellamy Bat is a knitted stuffed toy designed by Phoenixknits. This intermediate-level project creates a small plush bat approximately 6 inches high when sitting. The finished toy is suitable for children and makes an engaging handmade gift or decorative piece.
Craft and Technique
This pattern uses knitting as the primary construction method. The design incorporates fundamental knitting techniques including casting on, increasing stitches, and turning work to create three-dimensional shaping. The pattern employs a technique called TURN, which involves knitting or purling a stated number of stitches, then rotating the work to continue knitting only on those stitches while ignoring stitches remaining on the other needle. This creates distinct sections and helps form the bat's body structure.
Stitches Used
The Bellamy Bat pattern utilizes essential knitting stitches appropriate for toy construction:
- Knit (K) – the fundamental knit stitch
- Purl (P) – the reverse of the knit stitch
- Inc1 – increase one stitch, used to expand the fabric and create shaping
- Slip 1 – slip the next stitch onto the right-hand needle without working into it, used for edge finishing
- YFW (Yarn Forward) – bring the yarn forward as if to purl
- YB (Yarn Back) – take the yarn back as if to knit
