Bayside Pullover by Hannah Fettig

What is Being Made

The Bayside Pullover is a breezy raglan pullover designed by Hannah Fettig of KnitBot. This is a top-down, in-the-round knit sweater available in nine sizes, ranging from 32 inches to 60 inches in chest circumference. The pullover is designed to be worn with 2–4 inches of positive ease, making it a comfortable, relaxed-fit garment suitable for various body sizes and layering preferences.

Construction and Techniques

This pullover is worked from the top down in the round using circular needles, a popular technique that allows for seamless construction and the ability to try on the garment as you knit. The yoke is shaped using raglan increases, which create diagonal lines from the neckline down to the armholes. A simple cable pattern follows these raglan lines and continues down the sweater sides, adding visual interest and texture to the finished garment.

The pattern provides flexibility for different climates and yarn preferences. The original design is worked in linen yarn, making it an excellent choice for warmer weather and breathable wear. For those preferring a pullover suitable for cooler seasons, the pattern accommodates fingering weight wool as an alternative yarn choice, demonstrating the versatility of the design.

Stitches Used

  • Knit stitch (primary fabric construction)
  • Purl stitch (used in setup rows and shaping)
  • Cable stitch (featured along raglan lines and sweater sides)
  • Make One Right increase (M1R) for raglan shaping
  • Slip marker technique for tracking pattern sections

Materials and Yarn Weight

The Bayside Pullover is designed to be worked in either 4-ply or DK weight yarn, providing options for different fiber content and finished fabric characteristics. The original sample is crafted in linen, which creates a lightweight, breathable fabric ideal for summer wear. Alternatively, fingering weight wool can be substituted for a warmer, more structured pullover suitable for cooler climates. Shorter circular needles are required for the yoke construction, with the pattern specifying needle sizes appropriate for the chosen yarn weight.

Finished Measurements

The pattern includes nine size options with the following specifications:

  • Chest circumference: 32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, or 60 inches (81.5 to 152.5 cm)
  • Length: 24 to 29¼ inches (61 to 72.5 cm), with length increasing incrementally across sizes
  • Yoke stitch counts vary by size, with front stitches ranging from 10 to 16 stitches, cable stitches held at 10 per side, sleeve stitches from 12 to 14 stitches, and back stitches from 24 to 38 stitches

Skill Level

This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience. The combination of top-down raglan construction, cable work, and in-the-round knitting requires familiarity with these techniques, though the straightforward cable pattern and clear stitch counts make it accessible to advancing knitters.
