Product Description
Crochet market bag for the beach or for yarn shopping!
This net is a beauty. It might look complicated, but trust me, it is very easy.
The finished net measures approximately 30 x 40 cm (12 x 16 in) and has a lot of elasticity.
The pattern has written instructions, a chart for the lace pattern and a photo tutorial for front post stitches.
I used 4 skeins of Camarose Pimacotton (200 m/50 g) and a 2.5 mm hook.
Available in english (US terms) and danish.
Bark Net Crochet Bag by Sidsel Sangild
What Is Being Made
Bark Net is a versatile crocheted net bag designed by Sidsel Sangild for beach use or yarn shopping. This intermediate-level project creates a stretchy, open-weave bag with finished measurements of 40 cm wide at the widest point and 30 cm tall. The net construction provides breathability and flexibility, making it ideal for carrying items while allowing visibility and air circulation through the fabric.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches
The Bark Net pattern employs fundamental crochet techniques suitable for intermediate crafters. The construction uses front post double crochet (FPdc) as a special abbreviation, which creates texture and dimension in the finished piece. The pattern works in rounds, building the net structure through strategic increases and stitch placement. Chain stitches (Ch) and slip stitches (sl st) form the foundation and joining elements throughout the pattern. The increases are distributed evenly across rounds—for example, Round 3 incorporates multiple increases spaced around the work, followed by sections of consistent single stitches to create the characteristic net pattern with its open, airy appearance.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
This project requires 4 skeins of Pimabomuld from Cama, a 100% cotton yarn in colour 3439. The yarn weight is 4-ply, providing a medium weight suitable for creating a durable yet breathable net fabric. A 2.5 mm crochet hook is recommended for this yarn weight. Notably, no separate gauge swatch is required; instead, crafters should measure their gauge after completing the 7th round as instructed in the pattern, allowing for adjustments before committing to the full project. The cotton fiber content makes this an excellent choice for a beach bag, as cotton resists saltwater damage and dries quickly.
Pattern Characteristics
The Bark Net pattern demonstrates thoughtful construction with its stretchy, flexible finished fabric. The open-weave net structure is achieved through the strategic placement of increases and consistent stitch sections, creating a balanced design that maintains its shape while remaining flexible enough to accommodate varying contents. The pattern's intermediate difficulty level makes it accessible to crafters with foundational crochet knowledge while offering enough structural interest to remain engaging throughout the project.
