Product Description
Traditionally, ganseys are knitted ‘in the round’. This pattern featuring many traditional stitches, is written for flat knitting, except for the neckband, but looks as though it has been knitted ‘in the round’ if invisible seaming is used and if the two halves of both gussets are joined by grafting. If the knitter prefers not to graft, then simply cast off the 15 gusset sts rather than transfer them to a stitch holder and seam the two halves together. The back and front are identical except for the addition of three ‘edge stitches’ either side of the front. These produce the seam stitch found in traditional ganseys and are used as the foundation of the armhole gusset. Likewise the left and right sleeves are identical except for the placing of the edge stitches and gusset: to the left in the left sleeve and to the right on the right sleeve.
This yarn is discontinued but could be sub. with New Lanark DK (www.newlanarkshop.co.uk), Rowan Tweed or possibly Wendy Ramsdale DK. Do swatch!
