Product Description
Love Bears and Ballerina's? Then this knitting pattern is perfect for you, its a Ballerina Bear Knitting Pattern. It has so much personality and detail, it would also look great in any colours. This knitting pattern is perfect for beginners, very easy to understand and knit up, also a great addition for knitters who have been at the craft for years, as it is an absolute joy to make. It even includes abbreviations for every stitch you will need to know to knit it. I actually designed this bear for my nieces, I will be making more, a purple one and a blue one, to match Cardigans that I'm also designing for my nieces :) (Don't Worry they are old enough now to not chew and choke on the wobbly eyes).
This knitting pattern is only available in English.
Ballerina Bear Knitting Pattern by Nicola Rattley
Project Overview
The Ballerina Bear is a charming stuffed toy knitting pattern designed by Nicola Marie Rattley. This beginner-friendly knitting project creates an adorable bear figure standing approximately 40cm tall and 26cm wide, perfect for gifting or personal collection. The pattern combines simple knitting techniques with basic toy construction methods to produce a finished plush companion.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a three-dimensional knitted bear toy with ballerina styling. The completed bear measures 40 centimeters in height and 26 centimeters in width, making it a substantial stuffed animal suitable for children and collectors alike. The design incorporates multiple color sections using brown, pink, and white wool to create visual interest and definition throughout the bear's body and costume elements.
Knitting Techniques Used
- Increases: Knit Front and Back (KFB) stitches are used to expand stitch counts and create shaping throughout the bear's body sections
- Decreases: Knit 2 Together (K2Tog) stitches reduce stitch counts to shape and close off sections of the toy
- Stocking Stitch: The primary fabric construction method, creating a smooth, finished appearance on the bear's surface
- Purl Rows: Used strategically throughout the pattern to create texture variation and structure
- Casting On and Binding Off: Essential foundational techniques for beginning and completing individual pattern sections
Stitches and Abbreviations
The pattern employs fundamental knitting stitches suitable for beginners. KFB (Knit Front and Back) serves as the increase stitch, allowing the knitter to add stitches for shaping the bear's rounded forms. K2Tog (Knit 2 Stitches Together) functions as the decrease stitch, used to taper sections and create definition. St-St (Stocking Stitch) forms the primary fabric structure, alternating knit and purl rows to create a smooth, polished surface. Individual stitches are abbreviated as St, with multiple stitches referred to as Sts.
Materials and Equipment
This project requires 4mm single point needles (Australian sizing) as the primary knitting tool. The yarn weight is 8 Ply DK (Double Knit), a versatile medium weight suitable for toy construction. The color palette consists of one ball each of brown, pink, and white wool, allowing for the bear's body and ballerina costume details. Additional materials include a tapestry needle for seaming and weaving in yarn ends, polyester toy filling for stuffing the completed bear sections, and sewn-in wobbly eyes to bring the bear's face to life. These materials work together to create a soft, huggable, and durable finished toy.
Difficulty Level
Designed as a beginner-level pattern, the Ballerina Bear is accessible to knitters new to toy construction. The pattern uses only basic increases, decreases, and stocking stitch, making it an ideal introduction to amigurumi-style toy knitting without overwhelming complexity.
