Product Description
Intro from pattern: I made these beanies for my son, nephew, and niece, using leftover acrylics from my various knit and crochet projects. Although, the pattern is written to make use of assortments of worsted weight yarn, it works just as well for single skeins of your favourite ones. The design as written works best for wool and its blends, acrylics or cotton yarn. There are two styles available - first being a simple stockinette body hat with 3 round stripes of each colour; second style has a starting purl ridge for each colour stripe (number of rounds in each stripe varies as per availability of yarn), which gives even more pop of colour on each stripe. Choose to make yours exactly like mine, or get creative!!! Gauge: 18 stitches and 26 rows = 4 inches in Stockinette

What is Being Made
The Assortments Beanie is a versatile knitted hat pattern designed by Shweta Shankar Khatri of DesiLoop. This downloadable PDF pattern offers seven size options ranging from Preemie through Large Adult, making it suitable for the entire family. The beanie is an ideal project for using up leftover yarn from previous knitting and crochet projects, though it works equally well when made from single skeins of coordinating yarn.
Design Styles and Variations
The pattern presents two distinct design approaches, allowing crafters to choose their preferred aesthetic:
- Style One: A simple stockinette body hat featuring three rounds of stripes in each color, creating a clean, classic striped appearance
- Style Two: An enhanced striped design that begins each color section with a purl ridge, offering increased visual pop and dimension to the color transitions. The number of rounds in each stripe can vary based on yarn availability, providing flexibility in the design execution
The pattern encourages creative customization, allowing knitters to modify the design based on their available materials and personal preferences.
Knitting Techniques Used
This intermediate-level knitting project employs fundamental techniques suitable for experienced beginners and beyond. The primary construction method uses stockinette stitch for the main body of the hat, creating a smooth, classic fabric. The second style variation incorporates purl ridges at the beginning of each color stripe, adding textural contrast and visual interest. The pattern involves working in the round using circular needles and double-pointed needles, which are standard techniques for hat construction.
Stitches Used
- Stockinette Stitch: The primary stitch for the hat body, worked in the round to create a smooth, V-textured fabric
- Purl Ridge: Used in the second style variation to create definition and visual separation between color stripes
- Ribbing: Typical for the cuff area to provide stretch and elasticity (standard hat construction)
Materials and Tools
Yarn: The pattern is written for worsted weight yarn, though it accommodates both aran and DK weight yarns. The designer specifically notes that the pattern works best with wool and wool blends, acrylics, or cotton yarn. Crafters can use assortments of leftover yarns from previous projects or single skeins of favorite colors.
Needles: The pattern requires US 7 needles in both double-pointed needle (DPN) and circular needle formats. Circular needles are available in 9-inch or 12-inch lengths, allowing knitters to choose based on their preferred technique and the hat size being made.
Skill Level
Rated as an intermediate project, the Assortments Beanie is suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are comfortable working in the round and managing color changes. The straightforward stitch patterns and flexible design make it an accessible intermediate project that builds confidence in hat construction.
