Apple Scrubby

Apple Scrubby by Crystalized Designs

What is Being Made

The Apple Scrubby is a functional kitchen cleaning tool designed in the shape of an apple. Created by designer Crystal Bucholz of Crystalized Designs, this crocheted scrubby is versatile enough to clean dishes, countertops, and appliances. The finished scrubby measures approximately 4 inches in length and 3.5 inches in width, making it a practical and decorative addition to any kitchen.

Crochet Techniques and Stitches

This beginner-level crochet pattern utilizes half double crochet (hdc) as the primary stitch throughout the project. The straightforward stitch choice makes this design accessible to new crocheters while still creating an effective scrubbing texture. The pattern is worked to a gauge of 13 half double crochets by 11 rows over 4 inches, which helps ensure proper sizing and density for effective scrubbing action.

Materials and Yarn

The Apple Scrubby is crafted using specialty scrubby yarn designed specifically for cleaning applications. The main body of the apple is worked in Red Heart Scrubby Yarn in Cherry, which provides both the characteristic red color and the textured surface necessary for scrubbing. Complementary details include a small amount of brown cotton or scrubby yarn for the stem and a small amount of green cotton or scrubby yarn for the leaf accent, adding realistic detail to the apple design.

Tools and Equipment

• H 5.00mm crochet hook (Furls Candy Shop brand)
