Product Description

Here’s my new set of 3 easy patterns for hand knitted dishcloths. Make just one, make a set of 3, or make a few sets so you’ll have one for each day of the week plus some spares!

I’m knitting these during the 2020 Covid-19 health crisis. You can help to “flatten the curve” by staying at home & isolated. Use your time wisely and make some useful things!

These dishcloths are knitted in two colours of cotton yarn & they are all variations of a 'mitred square'.

If you switch to hand knitted dishcloths it means you have one less item to buy at the supermarket!

Antidote Knitted Dishcloths - Set of 3 by Carolyn Stanton

What Is Being Made

The Antidote pattern set includes three knitted dishcloths designed for everyday household use. These are practical, reusable cleaning cloths that can be made individually or as a coordinated set of three. The collection is ideal for creating multiple dishcloths for daily rotation throughout the week, with extras available for backup use or gifting.

Project Purpose and Benefits

Knitted dishcloths serve multiple cleaning purposes beyond dishwashing. The textured knit construction provides effective scrubbing action for washing dishes by hand, while also functioning as versatile cleaning rags for wiping countertops and bathroom surfaces. These handmade cloths offer an environmentally conscious alternative to disposable cleaning products, as they contain no microplastics and significantly reduce household waste. A rotating set of knitted dishcloths promotes better hygiene practices, allowing you to use a fresh cloth daily while keeping used cloths for machine washing with regular laundry loads.

Knitting Techniques and Stitches

This intermediate-level knitting project utilizes fundamental knitting techniques suitable for crafters with basic to moderate experience. The patterns employ standard knitting stitches to create the textured fabric necessary for effective cleaning performance. The knitted construction produces a fabric with inherent texture that enhances cleaning capability while maintaining durability through repeated washing and use.

Materials and Specifications

  • Yarn Weight: DK (Double Knit) weight yarn, ideal for creating a balanced fabric weight suitable for dishcloths
  • Yarn Type: Cotton yarn is recommended for these dishcloths, providing absorbency, durability, and washability
  • Tools: Knitting needles appropriate for DK weight yarn

Difficulty Level

Rated as intermediate difficulty, these patterns are accessible to knitters who have progressed beyond absolute beginner level and are comfortable with basic stitches and pattern reading. The intermediate classification makes this an excellent project for developing knitting skills while creating immediately useful household items.
