Product Description
Wonder Woman wore indestructible bullet-deflecting bracelets, so why can’t we? Unlike WW’s bracelets, these pulse warmers are made not from Amazonium, but from wool, another of nature’s wonderful treasures.
This pattern uses crocheted steeks. If you are trying steeks for the first time with this project, please visit Eunny Jang’s comprehensive Steeking Chronicles.
The most important thing when knitting these pulse warmers is to use a sticky wool. The samples use Lanaloft Sports Weight. You will also need a 16″ circular needle in size US 3 (3.25 mm), a size B crochet hook, four stitch markers, three 1/2″ buttons, a darning needle, and small scissors.
Choose from either the striped version or the color stranded version. Both are included in this 3-page download.
Amazonium Pulse Warmers by Mandy Spoth
What is Being Made
These are pulse warmers inspired by Wonder Woman's iconic amazonium bracelets. Unlike the fictional indestructible bracelets, these wrist warmers are crafted from practical wool to provide genuine warmth and comfort. The pattern offers two distinct design options: a color stranded version and a striped version, allowing knitters to choose their preferred aesthetic.
Craft and Primary Technique
This is a knitting project classified as intermediate difficulty. The pattern introduces knitters to stranded colorwork, a technique where two colors of yarn are carried across the back of the work to create color patterns on the front. According to the pattern notes, the color stranded version serves as an excellent introduction to stranded knitting for those attempting the technique for the first time. The pattern also incorporates steeking, a method used to cut open knitted fabric after completion, typically to create openings or shape the garment.
Stitches and Construction Methods
The pulse warmers are constructed using stranded colorwork stitches, where two contrasting colors are worked simultaneously in a repeating pattern. The striped version provides an alternative approach for knitters who prefer simpler construction without the complexity of managing multiple colors in a single row. Both versions utilize standard knitting stitches worked in the round or flat, depending on the specific pattern instructions.
Materials: Yarn and Needles
The pattern calls for sport weight wool yarn. The sample shown uses Lanaloft (100% wool, 145 yards per 50 grams). Two color options are provided:
- Striped version: One ball each of MC (LL36S Dark Ash) and CC (LL15S Roasted Pepper)
- Color stranded version: One ball each of MC (LL96S Maple Praline) and CC (LL45S Manhattan Mist)
Specific needle requirements are referenced in the full pattern documentation. Sport weight yarn is a lightweight option suitable for delicate, fitted garments and is ideal for colorwork projects where stitch definition is important.
