Product Description
Casting on with just 3 stitches, it’s knit in a Chevron style that moves away from each other, end to end, building up to an even set amount of stitches and then tapering back down to 3 stitches for bind off. It uses nearly 4 skeins of DK weight yarn, 2 for the main colour & 2 contrasting, but you can mix it up even more by using 2 main colours, so you’ll have a different background for each half - there’s a midway point stated in the pattern where you can add extra rows in to enlarge the wrap, that’s where you could also change to your second ‘main colour’ to begin the second half. With the construction of Chevrons that work away from each other, I aimed to achieve a flexible almost boomerang-like middle of the wrap shaped by the angles created there, that makes the resulting fabric easier to curl around your neck
Altered States Wrap by Bex Knitty Designs
What is Being Made
The Altered States Wrap is a large, versatile throw-around shawl designed to be worn in multiple ways. Its unique construction creates a flexible, boomerang-like silhouette in the middle section, making it easy to drape and curl around the neck for various styling options. This intermediate-level knitting project produces a snuggly, wearable piece suitable for layering and accessorizing.
Construction and Design Technique
This wrap employs a distinctive Chevron stitch pattern that works away from each other, creating the characteristic angled construction. The knitting begins with a small cast-on of just 3 stitches and gradually increases to an even set amount of stitches at the widest point, then tapers back down to 3 stitches for the final bind-off. The angles created by the chevron construction shape the fabric to achieve a flexible middle section with a boomerang-like quality that enhances wearability.
Yarn and Materials
The Altered States Wrap requires approximately 4 skeins of DK weight yarn. The pattern uses 2 skeins of a main color and 2 skeins of a contrasting color. Knitters have flexibility in color customization—the pattern allows for using 2 main colors instead, creating different backgrounds for each half of the wrap. A midway point is marked in the pattern where additional rows can be incorporated to enlarge the wrap, and this same point serves as an ideal location to transition to a second main color if desired.
