ALISON MAXI: Sleeveless Summer Knit Jumper
What Is Being Made
The ALISON MAXI is a sleeveless cotton jumper designed by domoras.com for children and ladies. This summery buttoned top features a classic, plain-colored silhouette with a relaxed fit suitable for warm weather wear. The garment is available in eight sizes ranging from 8 years through xxlarge adult, with chest measurements from 74 cm to 130 cm and lengths from 47 cm to 68 cm, making it versatile for various body types and age groups.
Knitting Techniques and Construction
The ALISON MAXI employs fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for intermediate-level crafters. The garment features a simple lace pattern worked from chart, which adds visual interest while maintaining accessibility for knitters developing their skills. All borders throughout the design are worked in garter stitch, providing a clean, structured finish that frames the piece and prevents curling at the edges.
The construction uses circular needles for seamless or in-the-round knitting, a modern approach that reduces finishing work. The pattern employs two needle sizes during construction to create proper fabric density and shaping.
Stitches Used
- Stocking stitch – forms the primary fabric body of the jumper
- Garter stitch – used for all borders and edgings throughout the garment
- Lace pattern – a simple charted lace design incorporated into the main fabric for decorative effect
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The ALISON MAXI is designed for DK-weight cotton yarn, a lightweight fiber ideal for summer garments. The original design was created using CABLÉ, 100% Egyptian cotton from Campolmi Roberto Filati in Florence, Italy, a premium choice that provides superior drape and breathability.
Yarn requirements vary by size: children's sizes (8–12 years) require 200–300 grams, while adult sizes (small through xxlarge) need 350–650 grams. With a yardage of approximately 125 meters per 50 grams, crafters can calculate total yardage needed for their chosen size.
Needles and Gauge
The pattern calls for two needle sizes: 2½ mm and 3½ mm needles, available in both straight and circular formats. The working gauge is 22 stitches and 32 rows in stocking stitch over 10 cm (4 inches) using 3½ mm needles. Achieving proper gauge is essential for obtaining the correct finished measurements.
Finishing Details
The ALISON MAXI features 7 to 11 shell buttons depending on size, providing functional closure and a refined aesthetic. The original sample uses white buttons measuring 17.5 mm, sourced from Wool Warehouse in England, though crafters may substitute buttons to personalize their finished garment.
