Fair Isle stranded colorwork using split single crochet, aka waistcoat stitch, creates a knit look. This hat is entirely crocheted. The pattern is written as a chart for the colorwork.

GAUGE:

1” x 1” - 6 split single crochet stitches by 8 rows worked in the round

There is some wiggle room in the gauge. If your gauge gives 6-7 rows, that is okay, too.
