I started designing this hat not too long after the 2007 gymnastics world championships took place in Stuttgart, Germany. The last time the championships took places in Stuttgart was1989, and many tried and true gymnastics fans consider that one of the best competitions that has ever taken place. It was during the sublime era of Soviet gymnastics (one of the few good things to come out of the USSR), and before Romanian gymnastics started going downhill. In addition to the beautiful, prodigious gymnastics, one of the things that stands out to me about that competition is the plethora of lovely chevron patterned leotards that must have been the fashion in the late 80’s. There was no choice but to choose a name for this chevron patterned hat that would pay homage to
