Turtleneck Dress Knitting Pattern by Neringa Ruke
What Is Being Made
The Turtleneck dress is a feminine, midi-length knitted garment designed by Neringa Ruke. This timeless knit features a long, foldable turtleneck that provides warmth without requiring a separate scarf, making it a practical layering piece. The dress showcases a simple yet stylish silhouette that works well with leggings for everyday wear. The design includes functional side slits that allow for comfortable movement, sitting, walking, and running while maintaining an elegant appearance.
Design Features and Construction
This knitting pattern is worked top-down, beginning at the neckline and progressing downward to create the body and sleeves. The dress is constructed with a long balloon sleeve design that adds visual interest and dimension to the garment. The body of the dress is worked in straight sections, making it highly customizable—knitters can easily adjust the length by adding or subtracting rows and purchasing additional yarn as needed. Side slits are incorporated into both sides of the dress, enhancing wearability and comfort for various activities.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
The primary stitch used throughout this pattern is Stockinette stitch, a fundamental knitting technique that creates a smooth, classic fabric with a distinctive V-pattern appearance on the right side. This stitch is ideal for creating drape and a refined finish on garments. The top-down construction method allows knitters to work from the neckline downward, providing flexibility in fit adjustments and the ability to try on the garment as it progresses.
Yarn and Materials
The Turtleneck dress pattern is designed to be worked with worsted weight yarn. The pattern showcases Sirdar Country Classic Worsted, a blend of 50% merino wool and 50% acrylic, offering both warmth and easy care. Each 100-gram skein provides 200 meters or 218 yards of yardage. The yarn is available in six sophisticated colorways: Ginger (656), Toffee (678), Moss (673), Fern (672), Pine (671), and Chestnut (679). Knitters will need appropriate needles for worsted weight yarn to achieve proper gauge and fabric consistency.
Sizing and Fit
This pattern is available in an extensive range of sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL, 2X, 3X, and 4X, accommodating a wide variety of body types. The pattern is designed to be worn with 5 centimeters (2 inches) of positive ease, providing comfortable room for movement while maintaining a flattering silhouette. The sample garment shown in the pattern is knitted in size L.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters who have mastered basic techniques and are ready to tackle garment construction with more complex shaping and top-down methodology. The straightforward body construction combined with the familiar Stockinette stitch makes this an accessible intermediate project.
