Product Description
This make up scrubbies pattern includes instructions for two sizes, one approx. 6.5cm/2.5" for a small scrubbie and 9.5cm/3.5" for a larger scrubbie.
It is ideal for a beginner or confident beginner, with plenty of step by step photos. Stitches used are - (US) SS, CH, SC, Puff Stitch (incudes a written instruction) and Magic Circle. (UK) SS, CH, DC, Puff Stitch (incudes a written instruction) and Magic Circle.
I have used Drops Paris Aran weight yarn for my scrubbies, with a 4.5mm hook but you could use any Aran/Worsted Cotton yarn to achieve a similar result. You could also use a different weight yarn, just use a half size smaller hook than that recommended by your yarn to ensure it is tight enough.
If you have any questions please contact me, I am more than happy to help (both before and after pattern purchase!). This pattern has been tried and thoroughly tested but if you have any issues please let me know.
Stitched Up Make Up Scrubbies Crochet Pattern
What Is Being Made
The Stitched Up Make Up Scrubbies are small textured crochet accessories designed for gentle facial cleansing and makeup removal. This downloadable crochet pattern by Kylie Moleta of Stitched Up Craft produces two size variations: a small scrubbie measuring approximately 6.5cm (2.5 inches) and a large scrubbie measuring approximately 9.5cm (3.5 inches) in diameter. These practical items combine functionality with handmade craftsmanship, making them suitable for personal use or as thoughtful handmade gifts.
Crochet Techniques and Construction
This beginner-friendly crochet pattern uses fundamental techniques accessible to those new to the craft. The scrubbies are constructed using a circular construction method, beginning with a magic circle foundation. The pattern employs straightforward crochet movements combined with textured stitching to create an effective cleaning surface. The circular shaping allows for even distribution of stitches and creates a compact, practical form factor ideal for hand-held use during skincare routines.
Stitches Used
The pattern utilizes several essential crochet stitches to achieve both structure and texture:
- Chain (Ch) – Used to secure the magic circle and create foundational loops
- Single Crochet (SC) – Forms the primary structural base of the scrubbie, creating tight, dense fabric
- Slip Stitch (SS) – Joins rounds together seamlessly for a finished appearance
- Puff Stitch (PS) – The signature textured stitch that creates the scrubbing surface; executed by repeating yarn over and loop insertions three times into the same stitch, then pulling through all strands simultaneously, followed by a chain stitch to close
- Magic Circle (MC) – The foundation technique that allows the pattern to begin with a closed center without a visible hole
Materials and Tools Required
This pattern is designed for use with Aran/worsted weight yarn, with the designer having tested the pattern using Drops Paris Aran yarn. A 4.5mm crochet hook is recommended, though the pattern notes that using a hook half size smaller than the yarn manufacturer's recommendation creates the appropriate fabric density and finished sizing. Additional supplies include a yarn needle for weaving in ends and scissors for cutting yarn. The pattern uses US crochet terminology, making it accessible to crocheters familiar with American stitch abbreviations and techniques.
Difficulty Level and Suitability
Rated as a beginner-level project, the Stitched Up Make Up Scrubbies pattern is ideal for those new to crochet or seeking a quick, satisfying make. The straightforward round-by-round construction, combined with basic stitches and clear abbreviations, makes this an excellent project for building foundational crochet skills while producing a practical, usable item. The pattern's simplicity does not compromise on visual appeal or functionality, as the puff stitch creates an attractive textured finish that serves the intended purpose of gentle exfoliation.
