Product Description

This sweater pattern was designed to use up leftover DK yarn - to turn your stash into a treasure!!

Skills needed: This is a simple batwing sweater made from two panels using a mindful repetative stitch pattern so is a great beginners project. The pattern is worked mostly with half double crochet (UK Half Treble) and chain stitches with some working in the back loop for the cuffs and hem.

Materials & Sizing: The item you see used a mixture of brands of DK cotton (mostly Paintbox) yarn but the project would also work with other fibres or a mix of both to add texture. The finished sweater is oversized.

The sweater uses between 1100 and 1620m of double knit yarn depending on the size you choose. The pattern includes a schematic and is written in US terms with UK equivalents given.

The pattern is for personal use only and may not be shared or reproduced without prior written consent. Copyright 2019-2022. Dora Does Limited, registered in England No. 13992263.

Stash to Treasure Batwing Sweater Crochet Pattern

What Is Being Made

The Stash to Treasure Batwing Sweater is a crochet sweater designed by Dora Does as a stash-busting project. This sweater is specifically engineered to use up leftover yarn scraps and transform them into a finished wearable garment. The batwing silhouette is a classic sweater style featuring extended sleeves that taper toward the wrist, creating an elegant, flowing aesthetic.

Craft and Technique Overview

This is a crochet project, making it suitable for crafters who work with a crochet hook rather than knitting needles. The pattern is classified as intermediate difficulty, indicating it requires foundational crochet knowledge and familiarity with standard techniques, but is not an advanced or complex design. The intermediate skill level makes it accessible to crocheters who have completed several beginner projects and are ready to tackle garment construction.

Yarn Weight and Materials

This pattern is designed to work with DK weight yarn, also known as light worsted or sport weight yarn. DK yarn is a versatile mid-weight option that creates fabric with good drape and structure, ideal for sweater construction. The beauty of this particular pattern is its flexibility with yarn choice—since it is designed as a stash-busting project, crafters can use multiple colors and yarn types from their existing stash, allowing for creative color blocking, stripes, or mixed-fiber combinations.
