What is Being Made

Madyson is an intermediate-level knitted hat designed by Katya Frankel. This project is worked in the round from the brim upward and is available in seven sizes to fit head circumferences ranging from 18 to 24 inches (45.5 to 61 centimeters). The hat features a reversible texture created through its stitch pattern, making it equally attractive on both the right and wrong sides of the knitting.

Stitches Used

Yarn and Materials

Madyson is designed to use 1 skein of Cascade Ecological Wool, which is composed of 100% undyed Peruvian highland wool. The specified yarn (color #8018 light gray) provides 250 grams and 478 yards (437 meters). Knitters may substitute this with approximately 115 to 155 yards (105 to 140 meters) of Aran weight yarn, depending on the chosen size.

The project requires 5mm (US8) circular needles, with the recommendation to adjust needle size as needed to achieve the correct gauge. Additional notions include a stitch marker and tapestry needle for finishing.

Gauge and Sizing
