The Lottie is a women's jumper knitting pattern designed by Debbie Bliss, featured in the Merion yarn collection. This intermediate-level sweater is available in five sizes to fit bust measurements ranging from 81-86 cm (32-34 inches) up to 122-127 cm (48-50 inches), with finished bust measurements between 97 cm (38¼ inches) and 137 cm (54 inches). The garment features a classic pullover construction with set-in sleeves and a finished length to shoulder ranging from 53 to 58 cm (21 to 22¾ inches), while the sleeve length is a consistent 46 cm (18 inches) across all sizes.
The Lottie sweater employs several key knitting techniques to create its structure and visual interest. The garment is worked flat on straight needles rather than in the round, meaning pieces are knitted as separate flat panels. Construction follows a bottom-up approach, where the body and sleeves are begun at the lower edges and worked upward toward the shoulders. The finished pieces are then seamed together to create the complete garment. Cable work is a prominent design feature, adding texture and dimension to the sweater.
The Lottie incorporates moss stitch as its primary fabric base, which creates a subtle textured surface. The pattern includes cable stitches worked using a cable needle, specifically C4B (cable 4 back: slip 2 stitches onto cable needle and hold to back of work, knit 2, then knit 2 from cable needle) and C4F (cable 4 front: slip 2 stitches onto cable needle and hold to front of work, knit 2, then knit 2 from cable needle). The gauge is 12 stitches and 17 rows to 10 cm (4 inches) over moss stitch, which is essential for achieving the correct finished measurements.
The Lottie sweater is designed to be worked in Debbie Bliss Merion, a chunky-weight yarn. The pattern requires 8 to 12 balls of 100g depending on the size chosen, with the sample shown in the Lilac colorway. Knitting needles required are a pair of 7mm (US 10.5) needles and a pair of 8mm (US 11) needles, allowing for ribbed edges worked on the smaller needles and main fabric on the larger needles for proper tension. A cable needle is also necessary for working the cable stitches throughout the design.
