What Is Being Made

Lara's Wrap is an intermediate-level crocheted shawl designed by Julie Blagojevich and inspired by "Cameo" by Paulina Popiolek. This wrap is a finished garment measuring 66 inches in length by 30.5 inches at its widest point after blocking, making it a versatile accessory suitable for layering or draping.

Yarn and Materials

This project uses Isager 2/50% wool, 50% alpaca yarn in two coordinating colors: Color 1 (C1) in shade 23 requiring 3 hanks, and Color 2 (C2) in shade 21 requiring 2 hanks. Each hank provides 250 meters of yardage. A size D (3.25 mm) crochet hook is used to work the fabric, and a darning needle is needed for weaving in ends.

Crochet Stitches and Techniques

The wrap employs fundamental crochet stitches including single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), half double crochet (hdc), chain (ch), and slip stitch (sl st). A special picot stitch is featured throughout the lacy sections, created by chaining 3 stitches and working a single crochet into the third chain from the hook. The picots are strategically worked on the wrong side of the wrap, creating a textured "bump" effect on the right side for visual interest.

Color Work and Construction

The wrap incorporates two-color crochet work with careful color changes throughout the pattern. When changing colors, the final yarn over and pull through of each stitch is worked with the new color while all other portions of the stitch are completed with the old color. This technique ensures clean color transitions between rows.

Gauge and Finished Dimensions

The pattern specifies a gauge of 10 stitches and chain-1 spaces by 16 rows equaling 4 inches square before blocking. The finished wrap measures 66 inches in length by 30.5 inches at the widest point post-blocking, providing ample fabric for comfortable wear.
