Koigu Painters Palette Premium Merino
based on 3 reviews over the last year
A very nice yarn, not a lot of yardage but good colors and a good solid feel. Soft, springy, very smooth. It is well plied, it holds together, doesn't split, is on the firmer side, can make a nice smooth tight fabric if that is what you want. Works very well with slip-stitch patterns combining several different colorways; I bought this to combine with the leftover KPPM from other projects for a wind-resistant hat or scarf. I find Koigu colors tend to blend better when knitting than most of the other variegated and hand-dyed yarns, even some of the more expensive ones. Sometimes the luxury hand-dyed yarns look so gorgeous on the skein but then look cheap when knit up because of the way the colors pool and play off each other. I'm often reluctant to buy the Koigu because there are so many colors and it just doesn't seem like they would work together, but when I knit up a swatch, it always ends up looking great, as long as I made sure that at least half of the many colors are ones that I like. Then somehow the strange mustard and glaring orange that I usually would avoid, become exactly the colors that make the lovely purple or blue or green, shine.

Knits up smoothly. Needed more wool for the shawl I am knitting.
