Crochet Pouf Pattern Using Hoooked Zpagetti Yarn – Downloadable PDF

This downloadable PDF crochet pattern guides you through creating a large, stylish crocheted pouf – a chunky, floor-level cushion seat perfect for living rooms, children's rooms, or any cosy corner of the home. Designed by Hoooked, the pattern makes use of their signature Zpagetti textile yarn, a recycled super-chunky yarn made from surplus materials sourced from the European fashion industry and processed at Hoooked's own production centre in Portugal. The result is a substantial, tactile homeware piece that is as sustainable as it is decorative.

About the Finished Piece

The finished pouf is designed to fit a round cushion insert of approximately 65–70 cm in diameter and 30–35 cm in height. Hoooked recommends sourcing a firm round foam insert – specifically noting that they source theirs from schuimrubber.nl and choose the 70 cm extra-filled option for the best result. An old T-shirt in a similar colour to the Zpagetti yarn is also recommended as a lining layer to prevent the foam insert from showing through the crochet fabric.

Construction and Structure

The pouf is constructed in two separate crocheted panels, which are later joined together around the cushion insert. This two-piece construction method makes it straightforward to assemble and ensures a neat, professional finish. The body of the pouf is worked in rounds, with each round closed using a half double crochet (half treble). A key structural detail of this pattern is that stitches are worked by picking up only the inner loop of each stitch rather than both loops. This technique creates a distinctive horizontal ridge or line running through the fabric, adding both visual texture and structural definition to the finished piece.

The pattern begins with a foundation ring of 5 chain stitches closed with a slip stitch, into which 12 stitches are worked to begin the first round. The piece is then increased outward in subsequent rounds to build the circular shape. Later rounds incorporate decreases – for example, crocheting every 7th and 8th stitch together to shape the pouf and bring it in around the insert.

Techniques Used

  • Working in the round – both panels are crocheted in continuous rounds from a central ring outward
  • Working into the inner loop only – this creates the characteristic horizontal texture lines visible in the finished pouf
  • Increasing – stitches are added in early rounds to expand the circular panel
  • Decreasing – stitches are worked together in later rounds to shape and close the pouf around the insert
  • Joining panels – the two crocheted pieces are attached to one another to encase the cushion insert

Stitches Used

  • Chain stitch (losse / l) – used to create the foundation ring
  • Slip stitch / half double crochet (halve vaste / hv) – used to close each round
  • Single crochet (vaste / v) – a core stitch used throughout the body of the pouf
  • Treble crochet / double crochet (stokjes / st) – the primary stitch used to build the body of both panels
  • Half treble crochet (half stokje / hst) – also referenced in the stitch abbreviations

Materials Required

  • Hoooked Zpagetti yarn – 4 full cones or approximately 120 metres (equivalent to 8 half cones) in your chosen colour
  • 12 mm crochet hook – a large hook suited to the super-chunky weight of Zpagetti
  • Round foam cushion insert – approximately 65–70 cm in diameter and 30–35 cm in height; an extra-filled version is recommended for the best shape
  • An old T-shirt in a similar colour to the yarn, used as an inner lining
