This is a pattern for a chunky scarf and laptop cover first published in Knit Today as an off to uni feature. the scarf is 20cm wide x 24 cm long, and the laptop cover 35 cm wide x 27 cm deep. They are both in wide stocking stitch stripes and are quick to knit, an easy project for a beginner. You will need a 35 cm zip for the laptop cover.
