Product Description
Christmas Pudding Paul and Christmas Pudding Penny have the best job in the world. They work for Santa at the North Pole and are in charge of making the yummiest Christmas puddings. A big part of their job is having to taste what they make. As a result they have both grown quite big tummies. In a land where everybody is surrounded by candy canes and sugar plums they're not the only ones to have put on a bit of weight over the years and having a tubby tummy never did Santa any harm!
The pattern includes two of their little friends, a snowman and a Christmas tree, as well as instructions to make a Christmas pudding decorated with holly leaves and berries.
This pattern is written in American crochet terminology and includes a handy stitch conversion chart so you can translate to British crochet terms instead should you wish to.
Christmas Pudding People Crochet Dolls
What is Being Made
Christmas Pudding People are charming crocheted dolls designed by Moji-Moji Design. These festive amigurumi-style figures capture the whimsical character of traditional Christmas pudding decorations, making them perfect handmade holiday ornaments or decorative pieces. The pattern allows crafters to create adorable, three-dimensional doll characters with personality and charm using basic crochet techniques.
Craft and Primary Technique
Crochet is the primary craft used throughout this pattern. The design employs fundamental crochet construction methods suitable for intermediate-level crafters. The pattern is written using American crochet terminology, which is important to note as crochet terminology varies significantly between American and British conventions. For example, American single crochet (sc) corresponds to British double crochet (dc), and American double crochet (dc) corresponds to British treble crochet (tr).
Stitches Used
The Christmas Pudding People pattern utilizes essential crochet stitches that form the foundation of amigurumi construction:
- Chain stitch (ch) – Used to create foundation chains and increase stitches
- Slip stitch (slst) – Employed to join rounds and create seamless transitions between sections
- Single crochet (sc) – The primary stitch for building the body and structural elements of the dolls
- Half double crochet (hdc) – Used for shaping and creating varied fabric texture
- Double crochet (dc) – Incorporated for taller stitches and dimensional details
- Invisible decrease (invdec) – A specialized technique for seamlessly decreasing stitches while maintaining the doll's neat appearance
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The pattern calls for DK weight yarn, which is a lightweight yarn that provides excellent stitch definition and allows for precise detailing on these small decorative dolls. DK yarn creates a fabric with good drape and structure, ideal for maintaining the shape of three-dimensional amigurumi figures. Crafters will also require an appropriate crochet hook sized to work with DK yarn, typically in the range of 2.75mm to 3.5mm, depending on desired finished size and personal tension. Measurements in the pattern are provided in both centimeters (cm) and millimeters (mm) for precision.
Difficulty Level
Classified as intermediate difficulty, this pattern is suitable for crafters who have mastered basic crochet stitches and are comfortable working in the round to create three-dimensional forms. The intermediate rating reflects the need to understand pattern abbreviations, work with invisible decreases for neat finishing, and manage multiple color changes or sections to bring the Christmas Pudding People characters to life.
Pattern Format
Christmas Pudding People is available as a downloadable PDF, making it convenient for digital access and printing. The pattern includes comprehensive pattern notes, detailed terminology guides for translating between American and British crochet conventions, and clear abbreviation explanations to support crafters throughout the project.
