I learnt to knit at primary school in the late 1950s and my mother helped me with my first project - baby booties. Through my teens and 20s I knitted jumpers for me and a tank top for my husband! When our daughter and son arrived in the late 1970s I knitted matinee coats, pram sets and covers, plus a knitted swimming costume for my daughter. I'm not sure she's ever forgiven me! Teaching full-time meant knitting was put aside until I retired in 2013. I wanted to knit a lifeboat character for my fourth grandson as my daughter and her husband met when they were RNLI crew. I found a Jean Greenhowe pattern and I was hooked on making toys. I love the patterns created by Pat Alinejad, Amanda Berry and Dot Pebbles. I treasure all my Aero knitting needles I bought years ago, plus all my Mum's and Grandmother's. My double pointed Aero needles are still in their original paper packaging and I use my Mum's ancient 'rotally' and stitch holder all the time.
