Product Description
This is a basic sock pattern using the new Universal X Loom by Cindwood Looms. Designed by me, and modified and made by Cindwood Looms. You can do a cuff down sock without need to do a kitchener toe finish. You can now do a simple finish in round toe method. It had video tutorial, as well as written formula for different size, plus photo tutorials as well. Plenty of instructions to offer help on making these socks. The x loom is only available so far in 3/8" gauge.
X Loom Sock by Scarlett Royale
Project Overview
The X Loom Sock is an intermediate-level knitting pattern designed for creating socks using loom knitting techniques. This downloadable PDF pattern from independent designer Scarlett Royale provides detailed instructions for constructing socks on a specialized loom apparatus, making it accessible to crafters who prefer loom knitting over traditional needle knitting.
What Is Being Made
This pattern creates a complete sock using loom knitting methods. The X Loom Sock utilizes a 120-peg loom with 3/8" gauge spacing, allowing crafters to produce fitted socks with consistent stitch definition and structure.
Loom and Equipment
The pattern requires a 120 peg Universal X Loom with 3/8" gauge spacing. A looming hook is essential for manipulating stitches on the pegs during the knitting process. This specific loom size and gauge combination creates the proper tension and stitch dimensions for sock construction.
Yarn and Materials
The X Loom Sock pattern calls for DK to worsted weight yarn. Worsted weight yarn provides durability and warmth suitable for sock wear, while the loom's gauge is calibrated to work optimally with this yarn weight range. The pattern accommodates yarn within this weight category, offering some flexibility in yarn selection.
Knitting Techniques and Methods
This pattern employs several specialized loom knitting techniques:
- Flat Knit: The foundational technique of tossing the bottom loop over the top loop to create knit stitches on the loom pegs
- Purl (P): A technique where the working yarn is pulled from the bottom of the stitch through to the top, the existing stitch is removed, and the new stitch is placed on the peg, creating texture variation
- Knit 2 Stitches Together (K2tog): A decrease method accomplished by tossing 2 loops over the top working strand, reducing stitch count for shaping
- Wedge Decrease (WD): A specialized sock-shaping technique involving moving the wedge down one notch to the next set of pegs, then moving the last set of stitches over to the wedge pegs on each side, followed by knitting 2 stitches together on the wedge pegs
Cast-On and Bind-Off Methods
Double Wrap Cast On (DW CO): The pattern uses this cast-on method, which involves E-wrapping the peg twice before proceeding with the initial stitch formation. This creates a secure foundation for sock construction.
Draw String Bind Off (DSBO): The finishing technique sends a tail through every other stitch and removes the stitch after the tail passes through. After the first round of binding off, half the pegs retain stitches while half are empty. The tail is then sent through the remaining stitches to complete the sock closure.
Difficulty Level
Rated as intermediate, the X Loom Sock pattern assumes crafters have basic loom knitting knowledge and are ready to learn specialized sock-construction techniques including decreasing methods and structured shaping. The pattern's use of wedge decreases and multiple stitch techniques positions it beyond beginner level.
Pattern Format
This pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF, allowing crafters to access instructions digitally and reference them during the knitting process.
