Worsted Pour Moi Cardigan by VERSACIKNITS

What is Being Made

Worsted Pour Moi is a downloadable knitting pattern for a cardigan sweater designed by VERSACIKNITS. This intermediate-level project offers nine size options ranging from XS through 5X, with finished chest measurements from 33 inches to 65 inches, making it an inclusive design suitable for various body types. The cardigan features a center back length ranging from 28 to 32 inches depending on size, providing versatile styling options for different proportions.

Construction Method

This cardigan is constructed using a bottom-up approach, with the back, fronts, and sleeves worked separately and then blocked before assembly. After the individual pieces are completed and blocked, the shoulders and side seams are joined together. Once the body is assembled, stitches are picked up around the neckline to work a neckband, which is a common finishing technique that creates a neat, professional edge around the neck opening.

Knitting Techniques and Stitches

The Worsted Pour Moi pattern incorporates several fundamental knitting techniques suitable for an intermediate skill level. The required skills include:

  • Long-tail cast-on for creating the initial stitches
  • Stockinette stitch (St st), which forms the primary fabric of the garment
  • Increases and decreases for shaping the cardigan's silhouette
  • Short rows for advanced shaping, particularly useful for creating fitted shoulders and bust shaping
  • Neckband pickup and working for finishing the neck edge

Yarn and Materials

The pattern calls for worsted weight yarn with specific yardage requirements that vary by size. The smallest size (XS) requires approximately 1000 yards, while the largest size (5X) requires approximately 1900 yards. The recommended yarn is Fibre Company Canopy Worsted, a premium blend composed of 50% baby alpaca, 30% merino wool, and 20% viscose bamboo. Each skein provides 200 yards, meaning knitters will need between 5 and 11 skeins depending on the chosen size.

Needles and Gauge

This pattern requires US Size 7 (4.5mm) needles in both straight and 32-inch circular formats. The circular needles are essential for working the neckband and potentially for the body if the knitter prefers circular needle construction. The pattern specifies a gauge of 18 stitches and 24 rows over 4 inches (10 centimeters) in stockinette stitch. Achieving proper gauge is critical for obtaining the correct finished measurements, and the pattern instructions emphasize taking time to check gauge before beginning.

Additional Components

The pattern includes provisions for buttons, though the specific quantity and placement details would be found in the complete PDF instructions. Buttons are a functional and aesthetic element typical of cardigan construction.
