I used a 3.25 circular needle rather than three double ended needles so the fins were fiddly but not impossible. The finished whale size is just what I wanted - about 11cm body diameter. I also used DK wool and that was fine too.
As I had to parcel the finished product up and send it to my grandson in Australia I opted to knit 'Bob the Blue Whale' as I thought it stood a better chance of surviving the journey in one piece! I may knit 'Whale' during my next visit to Australia.
