Product Description
Violet Waves is a lightweight wrap for spring and summer. It softly undulates with the wonderful colors of Noro yarn. The finished wrap measures 72 inches (182.9cm) in length by 18 inches(45.7cm) in width. The top of the wrap is made with the Tunisian Simple Stitch. It is is only 15 stitches across and can be made with a conventional crochet hook instead of with a Tunisian or Afghan hook. The rest of the wrap is traditional crochet across the length. It is composed of rows of stitches that grow gradually taller and then shorter, thus creating the wave effect.

Violet Waves Wrap by Julie Blagojevich
What is Being Made
The Violet Waves Wrap is a crocheted scarf-style wrap designed as an intermediate-level project. This finished piece measures 72 inches in length by 18 inches in width, making it a generous wrap suitable for layering or wearing as a lightweight shawl. The design features a distinctive construction method that combines Tunisian stitching with traditional crochet techniques to create textured waves throughout the garment.
Crochet Techniques Used
This wrap employs several key crochet techniques to achieve its final structure. The primary technique is Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS), which creates a dense, fabric-like texture that differs from standard crochet. The pattern also incorporates traditional crochet stitches including chain stitches, slip stitches, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, and triple (treble) crochet stitches. A helpful construction tip is included: the pattern does not require a specialized Tunisian (Afghan) hook. Instead, crafters can use a regular crochet hook with a uniform shaft, securing the working stitches with a rubber band wrapped around the hook end to prevent stitches from sliding off during the narrow 15-stitch-wide strip construction.
Stitches Used
- Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS) - primary stitch for the wrap body
- Chain stitch (Ch)
- Slip stitch (Sl st)
- Single crochet (Sc)
- Half double crochet (Hdc)
- Double crochet (Dc)
- Triple crochet (Tr)
Materials and Tools
The Violet Waves Wrap is crafted using Noro Taiyo Sock yarn in Color no. 30, a premium blend of Cotton, Wool, Nylon, and Silk fibers. The pattern requires 3 skeins of this yarn, which provides 420 meters total yardage. Two crochet hooks are needed for this project: a larger "I" hook (5.25 mm) for the foundation and initial construction, and a smaller "G" hook (4.25 mm) for subsequent sections. Additional notions include a darning needle for weaving in yarn ends upon completion.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters with some foundational experience. The inclusion of Tunisian Simple Stitch and the multi-hook approach requires familiarity with standard crochet techniques, though the pattern provides clear guidance on adapting tools for accessibility.
