Teeny Tiny Dachshund Amigurumi Crochet Pattern
What Is Being Made
This pattern creates a miniature dachshund puppy amigurumi—a small, stuffed crocheted toy designed to be adorable and portable. The finished piece is a beginner-friendly project perfect for crafters new to amigurumi construction or looking for a quick, satisfying make.
Crochet Techniques Used
The pattern employs fundamental amigurumi techniques suitable for beginners. Key methods include:
- Single crochet (sc) and double crochet (dc) as primary stitches for building structure
- Slip stitch (sl st) for joining rounds and creating seamless transitions
- Chain stitch (ch) for foundation and shaping elements
- Increasing and decreasing stitches to form the three-dimensional body, head, and limbs characteristic of amigurumi toys
- Stuffing techniques using toy filling to create a plump, cuddly texture
Stitches and Construction Details
The pattern relies on single crochet and double crochet stitches as the foundation for all shaping. Amigurumi construction typically involves working in continuous rounds with a stitch marker to track the beginning of each round, allowing the crocheter to build seamless, three-dimensional forms. The dachshund's characteristic elongated body, short legs, and distinctive head shape are achieved through strategic increases and decreases worked into these basic stitches.
Materials and Tools Required
Yarn: The pattern calls for 5 grams of double knit (DK) yarn, classified as yarn weight #3 or #4. This lightweight yarn is ideal for creating a small, detailed toy with good stitch definition. The designer notes that other yarns may be substituted, though this will affect the final gauge and size of the finished puppy.
Hook: A 3.5 mm or 4 mm crochet hook (US size E or G) is recommended to achieve proper gauge. The pattern specifies a gauge of 4 double crochet or single crochet stitches per 1 inch (2.5 cm). Checking gauge before beginning is essential for obtaining the correct finished size.
Additional Supplies:
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends and seaming
- Stitch marker to track round beginnings
- Small amount of toy filling for stuffing
- 2 × 6 mm black safety eyes (optional, for added character)
- Black thread for details
- Small piece of felt (optional, for nose or other embellishments)
