Product Description
This is an ideal first cable project for a novice or a quick knit for an intermediate. There is only one "proper" cable with the borders in a much quicker cheat's "cable" of eyelet-rib.
The headband can be made to fit any size of head - instructions are given. This also allows you adjust how stretched you would like your cables to appear when worn.
The easy (quicker) option is to make the headband flat and then seam it since the seam will be hidden at the back. Alternatively, a more advanced knitter can make a seamless version with a grafted join.
Any good quality 4ply/fingering yarn could be substituted. A solid or semi-solid shade with good stitch definition is best, otherwise your hard work making lovely textures will be difficult to see.
Sizes S/M to fit 48-53cm/19-21" head M/L to fit 53-58cm/21-23" head Instructions given to adjust size for custom fit.

What is Being Made
The Sunrise Headband is a merino wool headband designed to provide warmth during mild weather conditions when a full hat is unnecessary. This adjustable accessory keeps the morning chill at bay while maintaining a lightweight, comfortable fit. The headband is available in two standard sizes: S/M (fitting head circumferences of 48-53cm or 19-21 inches) and L (fitting 53-58cm or 21-23 inches), with unstretched measurements of 44x8cm (17½ x 3¼ inches) for the smaller size and 51x8cm (20 x 3¼ inches) for the larger size. The design accommodates various color preferences, from spring-inspired grass green or daisy yellow to autumn-appropriate icy neutral tones.
Techniques and Stitches Used
The Sunrise Headband features cable knitting as its primary decorative technique, making it an ideal first cable project for knitters new to this method. The pattern includes one horseshoe cable as the focal point, which provides visual interest without overwhelming complexity. The borders are worked in eyelet-rib, a combination stitch that creates a delicate, textured edge while maintaining structural integrity.
An important consideration during construction is that the stitch count changes during the pattern repeat. Knitters should verify their stitch count at the end of each relevant row to ensure accuracy, as the number of stitches on the needle will fluctuate according to the pattern instructions. The pattern provides size-specific guidance, with instructions for the smallest size listed first, followed by larger size variations in brackets. Where only one number appears, it applies to all sizes.
Materials
This project is worked in merino wool at a 4-ply yarn weight, which provides softness and breathability ideal for a lightweight headband. The pattern requires appropriate needles for 4-ply yarn, though specific needle sizes are detailed within the full pattern instructions.
Difficulty Level
While classified as an advanced project overall, the Sunrise Headband is specifically noted as an ideal first cable project for a novice cable knitter because of its single horseshoe cable and straightforward construction. For intermediate knitters, this is considered a quick knit, making it an accessible project for developing cable skills without extensive time investment.
