Product Description

This pattern is available for free, as weekly installments on my blog, if you follow this link You will not find a file, but will have to read through the blog posts about this project and print each chart and pattern page.

It is also available as a download (34 pages,) fully charted and well illustrated, here at Ravelry, for a $12.50 fee.

A lace sampler that was published in weekly installments over the Summer 2008 on the designers blog, http://badcatdesigns.blogspot.com/. Background information was posted during May, the pattern started in June finished on September 1st.

The final piece is 24 inches wide and 72 inches long, blocked. I used just over one ball of my yarn, and suggest 1000 yards of lace-weight yarn for this complete project.

The designer also runs a Yahoo Group! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BadCatDesigns/ - an on-topic group for people working on any BadCat designs.

Summer Sampler Study by Andrea Jurgrau

Project Overview

The Summer Sampler Study is an intermediate-level knitting project designed as a comprehensive learning resource. This downloadable PDF pattern originated as a group study with weekly charts posted to the designer's blog, and has been compiled into a complete booklet featuring all charted patterns, instructional photographs, and detailed discussions to guide knitters through the techniques.

What Is Being Made

This pattern focuses on shawls created using knitting techniques. The sampler format allows knitters to explore and practice multiple stitch patterns and construction methods within a single project or series of related designs.

Craft and Techniques

The Summer Sampler Study employs knitting as the primary craft. The project is structured around charted patterns, which provide visual guidance for executing complex stitch work. This approach is particularly effective for intermediate knitters looking to expand their technical skills and understand how different pattern elements combine to create finished garments.

Stitches and Stitch Work

While specific individual stitches are detailed within the pattern charts included in the PDF, the sampler format emphasizes learning through repetition and variation. Knitters will encounter a range of stitch techniques presented through the weekly charts, building competency across multiple pattern types and construction approaches.

Materials

  • Yarn Weight: Lace weight yarn is used for this project, creating delicate, refined fabric with excellent drape—ideal for shawl construction
  • Tools: Knitting needles appropriate for lace weight yarn (specific needle size recommendations are included within the pattern)

Difficulty Level

Rated as intermediate, this pattern is suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle charted patterns and more complex shawl construction techniques.
