Product Description
I've had a patriotic wreath on my door since last 4th of July. Figured it was time for a change, and while the green was inspired by St. Patrick's Day, it'll be a great Spring wreath, or change up the color for any other season/holiday! I used Red Heart Super Saver for my wreath, but Caron One Pound and Bernat Super Value are good alternatives. You can hot glue the flowers down (as I normally do) or you can use sewing pins (as I've done this time) to hold the flowers in place and embellish them with a pretty little bead. Sewing pins also make them easy to remove, and change up. My wreath came together in about 5 hours.
St Patrick's Day Inspired Endless Summer Wreath
What is Being Made
This is a decorative crochet wreath designed with a St. Patrick's Day theme that works beautifully as year-round home décor. The wreath combines a crocheted cover over a styrofoam base with crocheted floral embellishments, creating a festive and colorful wall hanging. The finished piece measures 12 inches in diameter and features green and complementary colored flowers arranged on a neutral base.
Craft and Techniques
This project uses crochet as the primary construction method. The pattern is designed as a beginner-level project, making it accessible to crocheters new to the craft while still producing professional-looking results. The wreath construction involves crocheting a cover to wrap around a pre-made styrofoam wreath base, then creating separate crocheted flowers that are attached to the base. This modular approach allows crafters to customize the flower arrangement and placement.
Stitches and Construction Methods
While specific stitch names are not detailed in the provided materials, the pattern uses fundamental crochet stitches appropriate for beginner-level work. The technique involves crocheting flat pieces to cover the wreath base and creating dimensional flower motifs. Assembly combines both hot glue application and optional decorative sewing pins for securing embellishments, giving crafters flexibility in their finishing approach.
Materials and Yarn
The project requires approximately 395 yards total of worsted weight yarn in multiple colors:
- Buff (base color): 203 yards, used for the main wreath cover
- Tea Leaf and Paddy Green (flowers): 192 yards combined for floral elements
The designer used Red Heart's Super Saver yarn in the specified colors. Alternative yarn options include Bernat's Super Value Yarn and Caron's One Pound, both in worsted weight.
Additional materials include an H/8 (5mm) crochet hook, a 12-inch styrofoam wreath base, a tapestry needle for weaving in ends, a hot glue gun with glue sticks, and optional sewing pins for placement and decoration.
Finished Project Details
The completed wreath works as both seasonal St. Patrick's Day décor and versatile year-round wall art. The designer notes that decorative elements can be secured with hot glue, or alternatively, sewing pins can be used to create an additional visual accent while holding flowers in place. This flexibility allows crafters to customize their finished piece based on personal preference and desired aesthetic.
