Product Description
Do you love, just like me, to crochet a shawl with structure? This shawl is a pattern that I think you’ll really like.
This triangle shawl is worked top down. You crochet the rows back and forth, which mean you turn your work at the end of each row. The pattern repeats every 2 rows, once you have worked through the pattern it will work away wonderfully.
Spring Drops Shawl Crochet Pattern
What Is Being Made
The Spring Drops Shawl is a triangle shawl designed for crocheters who appreciate structure and definition in their finished pieces. This top-down crochet shawl is worked in rows back and forth, with the crocheter turning their work at the end of each row. The finished and blocked shawl measures approximately 192 cm wide across the upper edge and 64 cm from the upper edge to the lower tip, making it a generous accessory suitable for layering or draping.
Crochet Techniques Used
The Spring Drops Shawl employs fundamental crochet techniques that make it accessible to beginner-level crocheters. The pattern is designed with a repeating sequence that works every 2 rows, allowing the crocheter to establish a rhythm once the pattern repeat is learned. The shawl is constructed using a straightforward back-and-forth row structure, which is ideal for those new to shawl construction. The pattern includes increases worked into each row to create the triangular shape as the shawl expands from the top edge downward.
Stitches Used
This pattern utilizes a focused selection of crochet stitches to create its structured appearance:
- CH (chain stitch) – the foundation stitch used to create the base and turning chains
- SL.ST. (slip stitch) – used for joining and finishing techniques
- DC (double crochet) – a primary stitch that forms the main fabric of the shawl
- TC (treble crochet) – used to add height and create textural variation within the pattern
- FPDC (front post double crochet) – a post stitch that creates dimensional texture by working around the post of stitches from previous rows
- DC2TOG (double crochet 2 together) – a decrease stitch used to shape the shawl as needed
The pattern notes that the chain 5 at the beginning of each row counts as the first treble crochet plus chain 1, which is important for maintaining proper stitch counts and shaping throughout the project.
Materials and Tools
The Spring Drops Shawl is designed to be worked with 4-ply yarn, specifically using Twister Hobbii yarn in color #46 (raindrops). This yarn is a blend of 55% cotton and 45% acrylic, offering a combination of breathability and durability. One ball of yarn, weighing 250g with a yardage of 1,000 meters, is sufficient to complete the entire shawl. The recommended hook size is 4.5 mm (US-7), which pairs well with the 4-ply yarn weight to create the structured fabric described in the pattern.
