Product Description
Something Fishy is a yoked jumper knitted in parts for approximate ages 6 months to 6 years. It has plain sleeves to avoid little fingers getting caught in loops and a button fastening for ease of dressing. The pattern is written and has charts for the colourwork. I used Rowan Cashsoft Merino, a beautifully soft yarn in excellent colours, but any good quality 4 ply would work well.

What is Being Made
Something Fishy is a children's yoked jumper designed for babies and young children, sized to fit ages 6 months through 6 years. The garment features a practical front neck opening designed for ease of dressing, making it an ideal choice for caregivers. The jumper is constructed using a classic yoke construction method, combining simplicity with visual interest.
Construction Method and Techniques
This jumper employs a traditional yoke construction approach where the front, back, and sleeves are knitted separately in rows to the armholes, then joined together to form the yoke. The yoke shaping is achieved through just 5 decrease rows, making the design simpler than its finished appearance suggests. The arms are knitted plain without textured stitches or colorwork, which prevents small fingers from catching on loops during dressing—a thoughtful design consideration for young children.
Stitches and Pattern Details
The pattern includes both written instructions and a chart to guide knitters through the yoke shaping. The straightforward decrease sequence on the yoke creates the fitted shoulder area while the plain sleeves provide comfort and safety for active children.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
Something Fishy is designed for 4 ply yarn weight, offering a lightweight fabric suitable for children's garments. The designer used Rowan Cashsoft for its softness, quality, and extensive color range, though the pattern notes that any good quality 4 ply yarn would work well as a substitute. Standard knitting needles appropriate for 4 ply yarn are required.
