Solstice Bunting
Inspired by the longer days and changing of seasons this 5-page pdf contains a written pattern, photo guide and chart for my crochet solstice bunting pattern.
Bunting is made by making 8 individual flags first which are then joined to make a string of bunting. Using puff stitches and a pretty bobble edging.
The pattern is written in UK crochet terms - US equivalents are listed.
Yarn Yarn Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK, 100% cotton, 50g (1.8oz) – 100g used
Shades Champagne white
Yarn Alternatives Any DK weight cotton yarn should give the same results.
Hook 4mm / G-6
Measurements Each flag measures approx. 20cm (8”) wide x 10cm (4”) deep (including bobble edging). Finished bunting (using 8 flags) measures approx. 235cm (92.5”) from tie to tie
The Solstice Bunting is a decorative crochet project designed to create a festive garland suitable for seasonal celebrations. The finished bunting consists of eight individual triangular flags joined together to form a continuous string of bunting measuring approximately 235cm (92.5") from tie to tie. Each individual flag measures approximately 20cm (8") wide by 10cm (4") deep, including the bobble edging detail that adds texture and visual interest to the piece.
This intermediate-level crochet project employs a modular construction method, where eight separate flag components are crocheted individually before being joined together to create the final bunting string. The pattern utilizes bobble edging as a decorative finishing technique, which adds dimensional texture to the edges of each flag. The modular approach allows crafters to work on manageable sections before assembling them into the complete garland.
The pattern is written using UK crochet terminology. Crafters working from US crochet abbreviations should refer to the conversion table provided within the pattern document, as UK and US crochet stitch definitions differ. The bobble edging detail is a key stitch feature that creates the textured border characteristic of this design.
The pattern calls for Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK, a 100% cotton yarn available in 50g balls with a yardage of 125m (137 yards) per ball. The recommended shade is Champagne White 403, and the project requires 2 balls totaling 100g of yarn. However, the pattern notes that any DK weight cotton yarn can be substituted to achieve a similar effect, providing flexibility for crafters who wish to use alternative brands or colors.
Additional materials required include a 4mm (G-6) crochet hook, a yarn needle for weaving in ends, and scissors. Notably, gauge is not critical for this project, making it more forgiving for crafters of varying experience levels.
This is a downloadable PDF pattern that includes visual guides and pattern diagrams on pages 4-5 to assist crafters throughout the construction process. The pattern was designed by Emma Escott and published in 2020. Additional project photos and further information are available on the designer's blog, providing additional reference material for crafters seeking visual inspiration or clarification during the making process.
