My son and his friends have been wearing my silk beanies as they trekked across the Himalayas (go to my website for exciting pictures), and they cannot believe that something so light can provide such warmth.So if you are about to climb a mountain (or just going skiing) make one of these first! I chose Debbie Bliss Pure Silk (now discontinued) but you can also knit it in any similar tension yarn. The madmonkeyknits Simple Silk Beanie knitting pattern provides full instructions for 4 sizes Xs,S, M & L so can be made for anyone from babies to adults with a head circumference between 16-24 inches.
