Sirdar Aura 7883 – Knitted Scarf, Hat and Mittens Pattern (Ages 4 Years to Adult)
Pattern 7883 from Sirdar is a chunky-weight knitting pattern offering four coordinating cold-weather accessories: a Scarf, a Slouchy Hat, a Cabled Hat, and Mittens. Designed to fit a wide range of sizes — from age 4–6 years through to adult — this collection is rated as intermediate in difficulty and is available as a downloadable PDF. Each piece is worked in Sirdar Aura, a luxuriously soft chunky yarn, and the four designs are presented as individual projects that can be made separately or as a matching set.
About the Yarn and Materials
All four accessories are designed for Sirdar Aura (shade codes vary per project — see below), a chunky-weight yarn sold in 100g balls. The pattern also notes that Harrap Tweed Chunky, Ophelia, and Sylvan Chunky are suitable alternatives, though yarn amounts may vary when substituting.

You will need one pair of 6½mm (UK3 / US10.5) knitting needles and one pair of 5½mm (UK5 / US9) knitting needles. A cable needle is required for both the Scarf and the Cabled Hat.
Tension
Two tension guides are given depending on the project. For the Slouchy Hat and Mittens, the tension is 14 stitches and 19 rows to 10cm (4in) over stocking stitch on 6½mm needles. For the Scarf, the tension is 27 stitches measuring 19cm (7½in) and 10 rows measuring 5cm (2in) over the triangle lace pattern on 6½mm needles. Achieving correct tension is essential, particularly for the sized garments such as the hats and mittens.
The Scarf
Design and Dimensions
The Scarf is one size, measuring approximately 19 x 130cm (7½ x 51¼ inches), making it a generously long wrap suitable for all ages in the pattern range. It is worked in a decorative triangle lace pattern combined with cable detailing, giving the finished piece both visual texture and elegant structure. The lace element uses yarn-forward increases paired with decreases (k2tog and s1, k1, psso) to form the triangular motif, while the cable sections are worked using a cable needle.
