Project Overview

Sails is an advanced-level knitted shawl design that creates a dynamic, shimmering fabric reminiscent of boat sails catching the wind or fish scales glinting beneath water. This downloadable PDF pattern offers a modular construction approach where knitters build the shawl by creating individual sail-shaped wedges that are progressively added together, allowing crafters to customize the final size to their preference.

Construction Technique

The shawl employs a unique modular building method where you begin with one sail wedge and then create additional wedges that attach to the previous sections. This repeating process continues until the shawl reaches your desired dimensions, making it an adaptable design suitable for various finished sizes. The modular approach also allows for creative color experimentation—the ethereal, otherworldly quality of the finished piece is heavily influenced by the yarn colors selected, encouraging knitters to play with different colorways to achieve their preferred aesthetic.
