Rowan Big Wool is a yarn knitters reach for when they want something warm, cosy and satisfying to work with. Reviewers describe it as a real pleasure to handle, with a soft feel in the hands and a lovely drape once knitted.
The range of strong colours is a highlight. One reviewer loved the smoky grey shade, and many buyers say the colours look beautiful in finished projects.
Customers say it knits up so quickly, which makes it a satisfying choice for bulky projects. One reviewer finished a whole jumper in a matter of hours, and another found the yarn very quick and easy to use for a snood.
Many knitters also report no snapping and no difficult handling, so the work flows smoothly from the first row.
The yarn suits textured work. Its stitch definition shows off cables clearly, and one knitter working on a cable cardigan said it seemed to be knitting true to the pattern.
Reviewers describe it as soft and warm, and many say it feels lovely against the skin.
It is a good choice for anyone planning great chunky winter knits.
Review summary

I like the soft, beautiful colours. I find it easy to knit with. I finished a scarf and have started a cardigan. It’s really warm and drapes beautifully.
Good price for the wool. Disappointed that 2 balls had been knotted in the length, not what i would have expected for a higher price yarn
Love this yarn! It feels soft and quite silky, with a perfect drape. The only drawback for me is that my pattern recommends 15mm needles and I found it quite hard to maintain a good tension with such big needles. My next project with this yarn will be using the rowan-recommended needle size of 10mm or 12mm and I anticipate these needles to be easier. I haven’t ever knitted chunky or super chunky before, so super-sized needles are new to me. I’m more used 4.5mm or lower. The Big Wool yarn is so...
The Willow Lark poetry is a gorgeous soft yarn in lovely subtle shades. I have bought it for a baby jacket which I haven’t knit as yet. The Katia Evita yarn is as expected as I have used before to knit as a gift, it knits up wonderfully and gives a true glamorous look and feel.
Knitted up beautifully, really easy to work with and no snapping. I used it because I have sensitivity to synthetic fibres and I didn't show any signs of irritation whilst working it. Would deffo use again.
It is a dream to knit with, it grows quickly. This is my second batch of this wool, I took the last lot on holiday and knitted around activities. Ihad the cardigan finished within a couple of weeks
The most beautiful yarn to work with. Knits up quickly into the softest of garments. Love it
This wool is a dream. Knitted a cardigan for my granddaughter. Soft, warm and knits exactly to the gauge
The Rowan Big Wool is gorgeous to work with and 'Smoky' is a lovely colour.
Gorgeous soft yarn, great for chunky winter knits. I've used it on 4 cowls and have a hat to make next.
