Product Description
Worked from the bottom up, this versatile hat pattern allows you to craft a perfectly fitting hat seamlessly in the round. The construction involves starting with the brim, progressing to the body, and culminating with shaping the crown. As you approach the final stages of the crown, you’ll need to switch from using 16” / 40 cm circular needles to either the magic loop method or double-pointed needles, depending on your preference for tackling smaller circumferences.
A notable feature of this hat pattern is its versatility in accommodating different sizes. For the pattern motif and crown, there are both written directions and charts available. You’ll be able to work independently with your preferred directions once the brim is done.
Select a size from the finished measurements that is 1-3.75” / 2.5-9.5 cm smaller than your head circumference. This hat is worn with negative ease.
Romilly Hat by rhyFlower Knits
What is Being Made
Romilly is a versatile knitted hat pattern designed by Melinda Measor of rhyFlower Knits. This downloadable PDF pattern provides instructions for creating a seamlessly constructed hat worked in the round, featuring a structured brim, body section, and shaped crown. The pattern is engineered to accommodate different sizes, making it suitable for various head measurements.
Construction and Techniques
The Romilly hat is worked from the bottom up using circular knitting techniques. Construction begins with the brim, progresses through the body section, and concludes with crown shaping. The pattern is designed to be worked seamlessly in the round throughout most of the project.
As the crown shaping progresses and the stitch count decreases, knitters transition from 16-inch (40 cm) circular needles to either the magic loop method or double-pointed needles. This transition accommodates the smaller circumference required for crown decreases, allowing knitters to choose their preferred technique for working in the round with reduced stitch counts.
Pattern Features and Flexibility
The Romilly pattern offers flexibility in how knitters engage with the instructions. For the pattern motif and crown sections, both written directions and charts are provided, allowing knitters to work independently with their preferred format once the brim is completed.
The pattern is available in multiple yarn weights to suit different preferences and project goals, including a fingering weight version.
