Product Description

Then front and back are worked separately to shape the armhole, then the pattern resumes with circular knitting, joining the front and back from the end of the armholes and knitting the rest of the body to the bottom. Roma Slipover by Na Trilha dos Fios
What is Being Made
Roma is a seamless knitted slipover vest designed by Esmeralda Garcia of Na Trilha dos Fios. This intermediate-level waistcoat is constructed using a top-down knitting method, creating a garment with no seams. The design features a structured collar and fitted shoulder shaping, making it a versatile layering piece suitable for various occasions.
Construction Method and Techniques
The Roma slipover employs several advanced knitting techniques to achieve its seamless construction:
- Top-Down Method: The entire vest is knitted from the top downward, allowing for easy fitting adjustments and the ability to try on the garment as you work
- Tubular Cast-On: The pattern begins with a tubular cast-on technique, which creates a professional, finished edge at the neckline
- Double Knitting Technique: The collar is worked using double knitting, a method that creates a thick, reversible fabric ideal for neckline stability and comfort
- Contiguous Sleeve Method: Shoulder increases are executed using the contiguous method, ensuring smooth, invisible increases that maintain the garment's aesthetic appeal
- Seamless Construction: The entire vest is knitted in the round without seams, eliminating the need for finishing work and creating a more comfortable, professional garment
Stitches and Pattern Details
The Roma pattern includes comprehensive technical explanations and abbreviations to guide knitters through each step. The pattern is organized into four distinct sections: a detailed description of the construction method, materials and measurements specifications, a complete abbreviations guide, and the full pattern with integrated technical explanations. This structure ensures that knitters of intermediate skill level can follow the instructions clearly and understand the reasoning behind each technique used.
Materials
Roma is designed to be worked in Aran weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn that provides excellent stitch definition and creates a fabric with good drape and structure. The pattern specifies the required materials and measurements in its dedicated materials section, allowing knitters to select appropriate yarn and needles for their desired finished size.
