Product Description

This oversized long sleeve pullover will knit up quickly. Begin with the cabled band that is knit from side to side, then joined before picking up stitches for the yoke. Worked in the round for about 1/2 inch before dividing for the armholes, it's done in sand rib. Short-rows are used to shape the shoulders before working the garter rib at the top of the shoulders, the added eyelets can be omitted if you don't want to add the lacing at each shoudler. Sleeve stitches are picked up along the armholes and worked to the cuff, beginning with a few short-rows to create a shallow sleeve cap. Then pick up stitches for the lower body and work to the hem.

One of the things I love about this pullover is that the only seams are the shoulders, which are joined using 3-Needle Bind-Off. Quick to knit and fun to wear!

Ridgeline Pullover by Therese Chynoweth

What is Being Made

The Ridgeline Pullover is a loose-fitting long-sleeve pullover sweater designed by Therese Chynoweth. This intermediate-level knitting project is available in seven sizes ranging from XS to 3XL, with finished bust measurements from 36¼ inches to 59¾ inches and lengths from 23¾ inches to 26¾ inches. The design is intended to be worn with 4–6 inches of positive ease for a relaxed, comfortable fit.

Knitting Techniques and Construction

The Ridgeline Pullover employs fundamental sweater construction techniques suitable for intermediate knitters. The pattern uses a combination of circular needles and double-pointed needles to create a seamless or minimally seamed garment. Knitters will work with multiple needle sizes and lengths—specifically US 9 [5.5 mm] circular needles in both 16-inch and 32-inch lengths, along with a set of 4 or 5 double-pointed needles—to manage different sections of the sweater, including the body and sleeve caps. This approach allows for efficient working in the round and smooth transitions between pattern sections.

Stitches and Pattern Details

While the complete stitch specifications are not detailed in the provided content, the intermediate skill level indicates the pattern incorporates standard knitting stitches beyond basic stockinette. The pattern instructions are written for the smallest size (XS) with larger sizes given in parentheses, allowing knitters to easily scale the design. Specific stitch counts and row gauges would be referenced in the full pattern to ensure proper fit and finished measurements.

Materials: Yarn and Needles

Yarn: The Ridgeline Pullover is designed for worsted weight yarn (Medium #4). The pattern is shown in Valley Yarns Berkshire, a blend of 85% wool and 15% alpaca. This yarn has a yardage of 141 yards per 3½ ounce ball. Yardage requirements vary by size: XS requires 949 yards, S requires 1054 yards, M requires 1160 yards, L requires 1272 yards, XL requires 1399 yards, 2XL requires 1514 yards, and 3XL requires 1620 yards. The sample shown is knit in color #50 Sage Heather.

Needles: Knitters will need US 9 [5.5 mm] circular needles in both 16-inch and 32-inch lengths, plus a set of 4 or 5 double-pointed needles of the same size. This needle combination is standard for seamless sweater construction and allows for efficient working of the body, yoke, and sleeves.

Skill Level and Suitability

Rated as an intermediate project, the Ridgeline Pullover is appropriate for knitters who have mastered basic techniques and are ready to tackle a full sweater construction. The pattern's clear sizing instructions and straightforward approach make it an excellent choice for expanding knitting skills while creating a versatile, wearable garment.
