Pull Châtillon Crochet Sweater by Belinda Benony

What is Being Made

The Pull Châtillon is a light, loose-fit crochet sweater designed for spring wear, offering a soft touch and comfortable drape. This beginner-level garment is available in six sizes ranging from Small (50 cm width) to Triple Extra Large (74 cm width), with corresponding length measurements from 54 cm to 60 cm at the back and front. The sweater features a relaxed silhouette ideal for layering or wearing on its own during warmer seasons.

Crochet Techniques and Construction

The Pull Châtillon employs a straightforward construction method suitable for beginner crocheters. The back and front pieces are worked flat using back-and-forth rows, while the sleeves are worked in the round with turning at each row to create structured shaping. This mixed approach combines the simplicity of flat work with the seamless quality of circular construction. At the end of each row, the pattern calls for a chain 2 (ch2) and turn, with 1 double crochet worked into the first stitch to establish consistent edges throughout the garment.

Stitches Used

  • Chain stitch (ch): Foundation and turning chains
  • Double crochet (dc): Primary stitch for fabric structure
  • Slip stitch (slst): Joining and finishing
  • Single crochet (sc): Detail and edge work

Materials and Tools

The Pull Châtillon requires 2 to 4 skeins of Phil Lolita from Phildar in color rose fluo (a bright fluorescent pink). This yarn blend contains 47% acrylic, 10% wool, 10% polyamide, and 33% polyester, with each 50g skein offering 310 to 339 yards of yardage. Additionally, 1 skein of Phil coton 4 from Phildar in color œillet (a carnation pink) is used as a complementary fiber. This yarn is 100% cotton, providing 85 to 93 yards per 50g skein.

Crochet hooks required include a 6mm J(10) hook for the main garment and a 4mm G(6) hook for finer detail work. A yarn needle is essential for weaving in ends and seaming pieces together, and stitch markers help track pattern repeats and shaping increases or decreases throughout construction.

Yarn Weight and Fiber Properties

The lace-weight yarn classification combined with the acrylic-wool-polyamide-polyester blend of Phil Lolita creates a fabric with excellent drape and a soft hand feel. The cotton component in Phil coton 4 adds breathability and structure, making this sweater particularly suitable for transitional spring weather. The blend of synthetic and natural fibers ensures durability while maintaining the lightweight, airy quality characteristic of lace-weight projects.
