Product Description
Priscilla the Pumpkin Witch is a cuddly ragdoll and perfect for children to snuggle with. She comes complete with her own black cat, Pudding (Pud) the Cat. They love going out on adventures together, expecially at Halloween, and Pud is very partial to a piece of treacle pie after his travels!
Priscilla measures about 20 ins/51cms and Pud is about 5.5ins/14cms. Please note that for young children (under age of 5), do not use the plastic wiggle eyes, just sew them on instead (black for Priscilla and green for Pud). The pattern contains step by step photos where needed.
Stylecraft Special DK colours has been used, but these can be substituted and alternative colours are suggested in the pattern. You need Spice (approx. 50g), Blush (approx. 50-60g) and Black (approx. 50-60g). A small amount of powder pink and proper purple for the hair (approx. 10g each) and tiny amount of white for the cat's whiskers.
This is my first toy design pattern, so I hope you enjoy knitting them!
Priscilla the Pumpkin Witch & Pudding the Cat Knitting Pattern
About These Designs
This downloadable knitting pattern by Isabella De-Rosa features two charming amigurumi-style toys: Priscilla the Pumpkin Witch, a larger stuffed character measuring 20 inches (51 centimeters), and Pudding the Cat (nicknamed Pud), a smaller companion piece measuring 5½ inches (14 centimeters). These intermediate-level knitted toys combine playful character design with accessible knitting techniques, making them suitable for crafters with some prior knitting experience.
Knitting Techniques & Stitches
The pattern employs fundamental knitting stitches and shaping methods appropriate for toy construction. Key techniques include:
- Stocking stitch (ss) – the primary fabric used throughout both designs, created by alternating knit and purl rows to produce a smooth, finished appearance
- Garter stitch (g-st) – knitting every row to create a textured, ridged fabric used selectively within the pattern
- Increases – using the kfb (knit into front and back of stitch) technique to add stitches and shape the three-dimensional forms of the characters
- Decreases – employing k2tog (knit two stitches together) and p2tog (purl two stitches together) to reduce stitches and create shaping
- Yarn overs (yrn) – taking yarn round the needle to create decorative or structural elements
- Finishing – using the break and thread (B&T) method to close off stitches and secure yarn ends for a professional finish
Materials & Yarn Requirements
This pattern is worked in DK weight yarn, a versatile medium thickness that provides good stitch definition for detailed toy work. The pattern requires 3.5mm knitting needles to achieve the correct tension. The specified gauge is 24 stitches by 32 rows over a 4-inch by 4-inch (10 centimeter by 10 centimeter) swatch in stocking stitch, which is essential for ensuring the finished toys reach their intended measurements.
Skill Level & Pattern Structure
Rated as intermediate difficulty, this pattern assumes familiarity with basic knitting stitches and techniques. The combination of shaping methods, stitch variety, and the construction of two separate linked designs makes this an engaging project for knitters ready to advance beyond beginner patterns. The downloadable PDF format provides convenient access to the complete instructions, abbreviations guide, and all necessary information for successful completion of both Priscilla and Pudding.
