Product Description
In honor of my 10th anniversary, I offer a 10-color celebration of color!
This is an easy-to-knit garter stitch shawl. It is very soothing to work and provides a little extra interest as you watch the color play emerge. It begins with a center tab and then is worked in a series of 2-color stripes. Each color is joined using intarsia, which is very easy to work since you are only working 2 skeins at a time. DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED; we will help you learn this new skill.

Number 10 Shawl by VERSACIKNITS
What is Being Made
Number 10 is a crescent-shaped knitted shawl designed by independent designer VERSACIKNITS. This intermediate-level project features a wingspan of 87 inches (221 cm) and a center length of 22.5 inches (57 cm), making it a substantial wrap suitable for layering or wearing as a statement accessory.
Construction Method
The shawl is worked from a center tab at the top and progresses downward to the bottom edge. The distinctive crescent silhouette is achieved through strategic increases worked on the edges of all right-side rows, which gradually expand the fabric to create the curved shape characteristic of this design.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
This pattern employs garter stitch as the primary stitch pattern, which is created by knitting every row. Garter stitch produces a textured, reversible fabric with horizontal ridges and is an excellent choice for shawls as it provides structure and drape. The pattern incorporates edge increases on right-side rows to shape the crescent form. The design also features color work utilizing multiple color pairings that are strategically flipped during construction, adding visual complexity and interest to the finished piece.
Yarn and Materials
Number 10 is designed for 4-ply fingering or sock weight yarn, requiring approximately 900 yards (823 meters) total across two sets of Hypothesis Yarns WES ANDERSON COLLECTION mini-skeins. The pattern specifies 10 mini-skeins of 25 grams each, composed of 80% Superwash Merino Wool and 20% Nylon, which provides durability and easy care. Yarn requirements vary by color: approximately 100 yards (90 meters) in four colors, 150 yards (140 meters) in four colors, and 175 yards (160 meters) in two colors.
Knitting is worked on US size 4 (3.5mm) circular needles measuring 32 inches (80 cm), or the size needed to obtain proper gauge.
Gauge and Finishing
The pattern specifies a gauge of 24 stitches and 48 rows over 4 inches (10 centimeters) in garter stitch after blocking. While exact gauge is noted as not critical, variations will affect both yardage requirements and the final measurements of the shawl. Blocking is essential to achieve the intended dimensions and to even out the garter stitch texture.
