Product Description
Thank you for your interest in my lovely and unusual crochet design. Mr. O'Tannenbaum was published in November 2016, in the Inside Crochet magazine, issue 84.
My inspiration for this design take me back to my childhood and my memories of Christmas with my family. Choosing the right tree each year and decorating our real tree was such an exciting time. I hope you will enjoy making this tree and he will be such a wonderful addition to your christmas atmosphere in your home.
Only basic crochet stitches are being used, such as chains, double crochet and trebles.
Mr. O'Tannenbaum Crochet Christmas Tree Decoration
What is Being Made
Mr. O'Tannenbaum is an intermediate-level crochet Christmas tree decoration designed by Madeleine Kimberley. This innovative design features a dual-purpose structure: the complete project creates a large, tiered Christmas tree with two distinct sections, while the upper body section alone functions as a beautiful small standalone Christmas tree. This versatility means crafters receive two decorative trees in one pattern, originally published in Inside Crochet magazine, issue 84, in November 2016.
Construction and Techniques
The tree is constructed in two separate parts—a lower body and an upper body—that combine to form the full-sized tiered Christmas tree. The pattern requires tight crochet work throughout to ensure the tree body maintains its structural integrity and shape. The design incorporates toy stuffing to add dimension and support to the crocheted pieces. Assembly involves a strong cardboard circle base measuring 16.5cm (6.5 inches) in diameter and a 34cm (13 3/8 inches) long cardboard tube (such as an empty inner tube from cling wrap or aluminum foil) to provide the tree's central support structure. Loose threads are sewn in using a knitter's needle for a finished appearance.
Stitches and Crochet Methods
While the specific stitches are detailed within the full pattern instructions, the design employs fundamental crochet techniques worked with a tight tension throughout. The intermediate difficulty level indicates that crafters should have experience with basic crochet stitches and shaping techniques to successfully complete this project.
