American knitting terms. Although this pattern looks complicated it is an easy pattern even for those who usually don't like working with several colors at once. You only use one color to knit each round, no carrying the yarn around.  Two patterns  - a cute beanie hat and a neck warmer cowl. You can knit the cowl in any size you'd like the pattern is very easy to change.  The hat and cowl are knit in the round, so it is also a good pattern to practice this technique.
