Product Description
Missing Mum Infinity Cowl Pattern is for a more advanced beginner to intermediate crochet enthusiast, and you will need to have a basic understanding of crochet stitches and terminology.
This 9 page crochet pattern contains a detailed description of how to create the Infinity Cowl; with a list of necessary materials, step-by-step instructions, photos and a chart to help along the way.
My Mum was away for several weeks, she wasn’t here for Mother’s Day and I was missing her like crazy! So I thought I’d make her a surprise cowl for when she returned and I would see her again!
I used one ball to make a nice drapey, snuggly cowl, it’s a perfect ‘one ball project’. If you want to make it longer, just keep working and add another ball.
(Approx. 155cm long x 24 cm wide with 8 repeats)
This infinity cowl is made with love and all the feels I have for my Mum; make a fabulous gift for your Mum or just to add to your own collection.

Missing Mum Infinity Cowl by BlueBuggs
Project Overview
The Missing Mum Infinity Cowl is a crochet pattern designed by BlueBuggs as a heartfelt accessory gift. Created in 2020, this infinity cowl was inspired by the designer's experience of missing her mother during an extended absence and lockdown separation. The pattern is suitable for crafters with intermediate crochet skills and produces a versatile cowl that works as a meaningful gift or personal collection piece.
What Is Being Made
This project creates an infinity cowl—a continuous loop neckwear that can be worn wrapped around the neck multiple times or styled in various ways. The cowl is designed to be a comfortable, wearable accessory that combines texture and warmth.
Crochet Techniques Used
The Missing Mum Infinity Cowl employs several fundamental and intermediate crochet techniques to create its finished fabric:
- Single Crochet (sc) - Used to create dense, structured fabric sections
- Double Crochet (dc) - Incorporated to add height and drape to the design
- Crossed Double Crochet (crossed dc) - A decorative stitch variation where double crochets are worked with a chain space between them, with the second double crochet positioned behind the first to create a crossed effect. This technique adds visual interest and texture to the cowl
Stitches and Stitch Abbreviations
The pattern uses US crochet terminology with the following abbreviations:
- sc - single crochet
- dc - double crochet
- crossed dc - (dc, ch1, dc) with the second dc positioned behind the first dc
- ch - chain
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Missing Mum Infinity Cowl is designed to work with 5ply, Sport, or Fine Weight yarn, which corresponds to yarn weight categories 4-ply and sport weight. The pattern requires 440 meters or more of yarn to complete the project.
Yarn Options: The designer used Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball yarn, specifically noting that using 2 balls of this yarn works well with the pattern. The demo photos feature Cicibebe Cake yarn in colorway 112 - Blue. The pattern is flexible and accommodates different yarn types within the sport and fine weight range.
Tools Required:
- 4mm crochet hook (sized to accommodate your chosen yarn weight)
- Yarn sewing needle for weaving in ends and finishing
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to work with stitch variations like the crossed double crochet technique featured in this design.
Pattern Notes
The pattern encourages customization by adjusting hook size based on your chosen yarn type and weight. This flexibility allows crafters to achieve the desired drape and finished dimensions regardless of whether they select Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball, Cicibebe Cake, or another sport or fine weight yarn option.
